Cognitive Processing Therapy

Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is an evidence-based, specific type of cognitive behavioral therapy that has been effective in reducing symptoms of PTSD that have developed after experiencing a variety of traumatic events including child abuse, combat, rape and natural disasters.

CPT is generally delivered individually, over 12 sessions and helps clients learn how to challenge and modify unhelpful beliefs related to the trauma. In so doing, the client creates a new understanding and conceptualization of the traumatic event so that it reduces its ongoing negative effects on current life.

It is highly effective and even after just a few sessions, my often experience a significant reduction in the troubling symptoms they sometimes have experienced for many years.

In this practice, the sessions are structured and include out-of-session practice assignments. While CPT was originally developed with the written trauma account as one component of treatment, in this practice, it is delivered without this component with more emphasis placed on cognitive techniques.

Pain Reprocessing Therapy

There are 1.2 billion people worldwide in chronic pain, but many of them don’t have to be. Thanks to recent breakthroughs in neuroscience, we have a deeper understanding of chronic pain than we ever have before. And with the right treatment, many of those suffering can reduce or even eliminate their symptoms.

Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) is a system of psychological techniques that retrains the brain to interpret and respond to signals from the body properly, subsequently breaking the cycle of chronic pain.

It consists of five main components:

  1. Education about the brain origins and reversibility of pain.
  2. Gathering and reinforcing personalized evidence for the brain origins and reversibility of pain.
  3. Attending to and appraising pain sensations through a lens of safety.
  4. Addressing other emotional threats.
  5. Gravitating to positive feelings and sensations.

Emotional Freedom Technique

Tapping, also known as EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), is a powerful stress relief technique. Tapping is based on the combined principles of ancient Chinese acupressure and modern psychology.

Studies have shown it can reduce cortisol (often called the stress hormone) in the body. Stress is linked to an number of issues, including anxiety, depression, weight gain, sleep and stomach issues. Tapping can lower cortisol levels and improve these issues as well as improve a sense of wellbeing.
